CECC confirms 2 more imported cases; Cases arrive in Taiwan from the Philippines and Croatia
Date:2021-04-16On April 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced two new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those two new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (Case #1070) and Croatia (Case #1071).
Case #1070 is a Taiwanese male in his 30s. He visited the Philippines for work in January 2020 and returned to Taiwan on April 13, 2021. Upon arrival, he voluntarily notified airport quarantine officers that he had experienced a runny nose and loss of sense of smell and taste. He was tested for COVID-19, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 16 (the CT value was 32; he was tested again after hospitalized and had a CT value of 35, and he tested negative for IgM and positive for IgG antibodies).
Case #1071 is a Croatian male in his 30s. The Croatian man was tested three times on January 14, January 20, and January 27, respectively, and the test results were positive. He was later given tests on February 1 and February 3, and he tested negative. He traveled to Taiwan for work on February 4. After he acquired a negative COVID-19 test result on February 20, he boarded a ship and headed out to sea for work on March 7. He returned to Taiwan on April 13. He took a self-paid test on April 14, and he tested positive. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 16.
The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 198,162 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 196,507. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1070 cases. Of the 1070 confirmed cases, 954 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 11 deaths, and 1032 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 27 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
